Ingredients

  • 300 g firm potatoes
  • Salt
  • 400 g horn-shaped pasta (e.g., Hörnli or Magronen)
  • 200 ml milk
  • 100 ml heavy cream
  • 250 g grated cheese (e.g., Sbrinz or alpine cheese)
  • pepper from the mill
  • freshly grated nutmeg
  • 2 onions
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp freshly chopped parsley

Instructions

    Peel, wash and cube the potatoes. Parboil in salted water for about 10 minutes. Cook the pasta in salted water until very firm. Drain both and let them dry well.

    Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) with top and bottom heat.

    Heat the milk with the cream and stir in about two-thirds of the cheese. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg. Pour the cheese sauce over the pasta and potatoes in a baking dish and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.

    Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes until golden brown. Peel, halve and slice the onions into rings. In hot butter, slowly cook them while stirring until golden.

    Remove from the oven and serve sprinkled with onion rings and parsley.
