Catalan Fish Stew

Spoonsparrow Catalan Fish Stew is easy to prepare and brings Spanish flair into the home kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 2 kg fish of choice (cod, sardines etc.)
  • 1 kg cleaned shellfish of choice (e.g., Venus clams)
  • 6 tomatoes
  • 2 onions
  • 4 Garlic cloves
  • 50 ml oil
  • 200 ml white wine
  • 2 green bell peppers
  • 1 chili pepper
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • Salt
  • ground black pepper

Instructions

    Wash and pat fish dry.

    Heat tomatoes, rinse with cold water, peel and roughly dice.

    Peel onions and garlic; slice onion thinly, finely chop garlic. Wash parsley, shake dry, and coarsely chop.

    Wash bell peppers, halve, clean, and roughly dice.

    Heat 2 tbsp oil, sauté onions, then add garlic, tomatoes, and peppers. Deglaze with white wine. Add bay leaves and finely chopped chili pepper; simmer for about 10 minutes. Cut fish into large pieces, leave sardines whole. Add shellfish to the vegetables. Season with salt and pepper, drizzle with oil. Cover and simmer for about 20 minutes. Taste the Catalan Fish Stew and serve with white bread if desired.
