California Roll

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 4 seaweed sticks
  • 1 cucumber (about 10 cm)
  • 0.25 ripe avocado
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 250 g prepared sushi rice
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 roasted nori sheets

Instructions

    Halve the seaweed sticks lengthwise. Cut the cucumber lengthwise, remove seeds and slice into ~0.5 cm thick sticks.

    Peel the avocado piece, cut it into strips lengthwise and immediately drizzle with lemon juice.

    Toast sesame in a dry pan without fat, remove and let cool on a flat plate.

    Wrap the sushi rolling mat with plastic wrap and place a nori sheet smooth side down. Spread half of the sushi rice over it, press lightly, then carefully flip so the rice lies on the plastic.

    Spread half of the mayonnaise on the lower third of the nori sheet, lay half of the seaweed sticks, cucumber sticks, and avocado strips, and roll using the mat. Form a second roll with remaining ingredients.

    Cut each sushi roll into 6 equal pieces and toss each piece in toasted sesame seeds.
