Ingredients

  • 750 ml lukewarm milk
  • 2 tsp grated lemon zest
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 packets vanilla sugar
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 8 stale rolls
  • 150 g raisins
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • butter (for greasing the pan)

Instructions

    Whisk together lukewarm milk, lemon zest, eggs, vanilla sugar and sugar.

    Slice the rolls into thin slices.

    Layer the sliced bread and raisins in a greased baking dish, pour over the egg mixture and let sit for 15 minutes.

    Scatter butter chunks on top, sprinkle remaining raisins, bake at 200°C (middle rack) for about 30 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm.

    Add vanilla sauce afterwards if desired.
