Ingredients

  • 250 g ketchup
  • 150 ml meat broth
  • 3 EL strong coffee
  • 3 Garlic cloves
  • 2 EL beet syrup
  • 1 EL soy sauce
  • 1 EL spicy mustard
  • 1 EL lemon juice
  • 1 TL paprika powder (sweet)
  • 0.25 TL cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 TL ginger powder
  • Salt
  • 800 g mixed ground meat
  • 1 onion
  • 20 g butter
  • 1 day-old roll
  • 1 egg
  • 2 EL tomato paste
  • 1 TL mustard
  • Salt
  • pepper (ground)
  • 700 g potatoes
  • 2 EL Butter
  • 100 ml milk
  • Salt
  • pepper (ground)
  • nutmeg
  • 2 EL spring onion rings
  • 400 g Carrots
  • 400 g Green Beans
  • 2 EL Butter
  • Salt
  • pepper (ground)

Instructions

    For the barbecue sauce, blend garlic with a pinch of salt into a paste.

    Add all ingredients with the garlic paste to a pot and simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes until thickened. Let the sauce steep overnight.

    Soak the roll in water for the meat loaf. Peel and finely chop the onion, then sauté it in butter until translucent. Mix ground meat with onion, squeezed roll, egg, tomato paste, mustard, and spices in a bowl, knead well, and shape into a loaf. Place the loaf in a greased roasting pan and bake at 180°C for 60 minutes. Ten minutes before the end of baking, spread thick barbecue sauce over the loaf and finish cooking.

    For mashed potatoes, peel the potatoes and boil them in salted water for about 25 minutes, drain, then mash with butter, milk, salt, pepper, and nutmeg using a potato masher; fold in spring onion rings.

    For vegetables, peel carrots and cut diagonally into slices. Trim ends of green beans after washing and cleaning.

    First cook carrots in boiling salted water for about 8 minutes, remove with a slotted spoon, shock in ice water, then drain.

    Add one tablespoon salt to the cooking water and boil green beans for about 10 minutes, drain immediately, shock in ice water, then drain again.

    Serve by tossing carrots and green beans in hot oil, seasoning with salt and pepper.

    Slice the roast loaf and arrange it on a plate with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Serve barbecue sauce on the side.
