Ingredients

  • 1 untreated orange
  • 300 g butter
  • 250 g sugar
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 20 ml Grand Marnier
  • 5 eggs
  • 200 g Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking powder
  • 70 g cornstarch
  • 100 g Ground Almonds
  • 2 drops bitter almond aroma
  • 150 g powdered sugar

    Preheat the oven to 170°C (fan) or 340°F.

    Wash, dry and grate the orange. Peel the zest, cut in half and squeeze out the juice. Beat butter with sugar and vanilla sugar until fluffy. Add orange zest, salt, 1 tbsp orange juice and Grand Marnier. Gradually fold in eggs. Mix flour with baking powder and cornstarch, then stir into the egg‑sugar mixture. Finally fold in almonds and bitter almond aroma.

    Line a springform pan with parchment paper, pour in batter, smooth top and bake for 50–60 minutes. Remove from oven, let cool slightly and transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling. Whisk powdered sugar with remaining orange juice until smooth. Prick the cake surface with a wooden skewer, drizzle glaze over it and serve cut into pieces with a dollop of cream if desired.
