Stew with White Cabbage, Carrots and Bacon

Ingredients

  • 500 g white cabbage
  • 200 g waxy potatoes
  • 200 g carrots
  • 2 onions
  • 4 slices thick breakfast bacon
  • 1 l meat broth
  • 1 TL cumin seeds
  • Salt
  • Pepper (freshly ground)

Instructions

    Wash, trim and roughly chop the cabbage. Peel, wash and cut the potatoes and carrots into large pieces. Strip the onions and slice them into strips.

    Render the bacon in a pot until crisp. Drain on paper towels.

    Add the vegetables and onions to the pot, sauté briefly, then pour in the broth. Add the spices and simmer over medium heat for about 25 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, serve on plates topped with a slice of bacon. Offer whole grain bread on the side if desired.
