Steak Burger with Red Cabbage
The steak burger with red cabbage from Spoonsparrow tastes much better than the fast‑food original and is also healthier!
Ingredients
- 200 g red cabbage (1 piece)
- 2 red onions
- 3 tbsp red wine vinegar
- 2 tsp Honey
- 4 tbsp olive oil
- Salt
- Pepper
- 600 g flank or sirloin steak (1 cut)
- coarse Sea salt
- 4 round whole‑grain rye rolls
Instructions
-
1.
Clean, wash and shred the red cabbage into fine strips. Peel the onions; slice one into strips, cut the other into rings and set aside.
-
2.
Toss the shredded cabbage with onion strips, vinegar, honey and olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and let it rest for 30 minutes.
-
3.
Meanwhile, pat the steak dry, season with sea salt, and sear in a hot grill pan on both sides for 5–7 minutes each at high heat. Remove the steak, let it rest for 5 minutes, then season with pepper.
-
4.
While the steak rests, slice the rye rolls horizontally in half.
-
5.
Slice the cooked steak into strips. Assemble the rolls with drained cabbage salad, steak strips and onion rings, and secure the tops with wooden skewers if desired.
