A simple potato gratin with cheddar tastes great on its own or as a side – this tasty recipe is available here at Spoonsparrow.
Ingredients
- Kerrygold Butter
- 1.2 kg waxy potatoes
- 1 Garlic clove
- (herb) salt
- nutmeg
- 250 ml Whipping Cream
- 250 ml whole milk (3.8% fat)
- 1 tbsp vegetable broth
- Pepper
- 100 g Kerrygold Cheddar (grated)
Instructions
-
1.
Preheat oven to 180°C fan or conventional heat. Grease a gratin dish with butter.
-
2.
Peel potatoes and slice thinly or shave. Peel garlic and press.
-
3.
Layer half the potato slices in the dish, seasoning with herb salt and freshly grated nutmeg; then layer the remaining potatoes on top.
-
4.
Whisk cream, milk, garlic, and vegetable broth together in a saucepan. Season well with herb salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
-
5.
Pour the mixture over the potatoes. Sprinkle butter flakes over the gratin, then evenly scatter cheese on top. (Tip: freeze butter for the flakes beforehand; they spread nicely over the gratin.)
-
6.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour until the potatoes are tender. If the surface browns too much, cover with foil. Enjoy.
