Ingredients

  • 500 g spinach
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Salt
  • Pepper (freshly ground)
  • nutmeg (freshly grated)','800 g waxy potatoes','250 g cheese (e.g., Bergkäse)','500 g crème fraîche','20 g butter

Instructions

  1. 1.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F) with both fan and top heating.

  2. 2.

Wash, trim, and roughly chop the spinach. Peel and finely chop the garlic and onion. Sauté both in hot butter until translucent; add the spinach and let any liquid evaporate. Remove from heat and season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.

  3. 3.

Peel, wash, and slice or wheel the potatoes thinly. Grate the cheese.

  4. 4.

Layer the potatoes alternately with spinach, crème fraîche, and grated cheese in a baking dish, seasoning each layer with salt and pepper. Finish with a topping of crème fraîche and cheese, and dot with butter pieces. Bake for about 50 minutes until golden brown; cover with foil if it darkens too quickly.
