Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 500 g rutabaga
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt
  • ground pepper
  • 2 tsp chopped thyme leaves
  • 1 large peeled tomato (480 g drained weight)
  • 300 cooked potatoes sliced
  • 3 eggs
  • 200 g whipping cream
  • 1 tbsp Tomato Paste
  • Salt
  • ground pepper
  • nutmeg
  • 150 g grated Gruyère cheese
  • 2 tbsp chives rings

Instructions

    Peel the rutabaga, slice into thin rounds, then cut into wide strips and steam in 1 tbsp butter with a little water in a covered pot for about 15 minutes, seasoning with salt and pepper.

    Sauté the chopped onion in 1 tbsp butter until translucent, add the ground beef and brown it crumbly, season with salt and pepper, stir in chives and thyme.

    Drain the tomato, roughly chop it.

    Grease a baking dish and layer alternately with potato slices, ground meat, rutabaga strips, and tomatoes.

    Whisk together cream, eggs, salt, pepper, and nutmeg, fold in tomato paste, pour over the casserole, sprinkle with cheese, and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 35 minutes until the cheese is melted and lightly browned.
