Ingredients

  • 250 g onions
  • 1 red chili pepper
  • 180 g bell peppers
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 can sauerkraut
  • 200 ml orange juice
  • caraway seeds
  • 150 ml Vegetable broth
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 300 g egg noodles
  • 150 g Emmental cheese
  • 100 g thin Tyrolean bacon
  • Chives

Instructions

    Peel onions. Chop one onion. Slice remaining onions into rings. Deseed chili pepper, dice finely. Wash bell peppers, deseed and dice. Heat 1 tbsp oil, sauté onions, chili, and peppers. Add sauerkraut, orange juice, caraway seeds, and broth. Simmer all over medium heat for about 35 minutes.

    Coat onion slices in flour. Heat 2 tbsp oil and fry onion rings until golden brown.

    Heat remaining oil, fry noodles for 4 minutes. Grate cheese finely. Slice bacon into strips. Rinse chives, cut into small rolls.

    Grease a large (1.5 l) or four small oven-safe dishes. Mix noodles with cheese, layer alternately with sauerkraut, onion rings, and bacon in the dishes, then bake in preheated oven for about 40 minutes. Sprinkle finished casserole with chives.
