Ingredients

  • 500 g flour
  • 0.5 cube yeast (21 g)
  • 200 ml lukewarm milk
  • 100 g sugar
  • 100 g butter
  • 2 Eggs
  • flour (for working)
  • 8 colored Easter eggs
  • vegetable oil (for brushing)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 50 g sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. 1.

Sift the flour into a bowl, make a well in the center. Break in the yeast and mix with some lukewarm milk, a bit of sugar and flour from the rim. Let the pre‑starter rise covered at a warm spot for about 15 minutes.

  2. 2.

Warm the butter with the remaining milk slightly, then combine with the rest of the sugar, flour, eggs and the pre‑starter to form dough. Beat vigorously until smooth and it lifts from the bowl’s edge. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes until doubled.

  3. 3.

Knead the dough again on a floured surface, shape into a log and cut into 8–10 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ~20 cm long strand, cross the ends to form loops. Place the loops on baking sheets lined with parchment paper and cover; let rise for another 15 minutes.

  4. 4.

Preheat the oven to 180 °C fan‑forced. Rub the colored eggs lightly with oil. Place one egg in the center of each loop. Whisk the yolk with 1 Tbsp water, brush over the loops, sprinkle sesame seeds, and bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
