Meatballs with Sauce
Meatballs with sauce from Spoonsparrow: A true classic of German home cooking!
Ingredients
- 2 onions
- 1 tbsp butter
- 500 g ground beef
- 3 tbsp whole grain breadcrumbs
- 2 tsp paprika powder (sweet)
- 1 tsp Mustard
- Salt
- Pepper
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp chopped parsley
- 1 tbsp Olive Oil
- 800 g carrots
- 300 ml meat broth
Instructions
-
1.
For the meatballs, first peel and finely dice one onion. Heat butter in a pan. Add the onion and fry for 2 minutes over medium heat. Remove from the stove and let it cool slightly.
-
2.
Combine ground beef with onions, breadcrumbs, egg, paprika, mustard, parsley, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix into a meatball dough and shape eight meatballs with damp hands.
-
3.
Heat oil in a pan and brown the meatballs all around for about 6–8 minutes, then remove and keep warm.
-
4.
Peel the carrots, leave some green on top, and boil in salted water for about 8 minutes until cooked.
-
5.
For the sauce, peel the remaining onion and dice it small. Sauté in the pan’s fat. Take out 3 tbsp of broth and whisk with flour to make a smooth slurry. Pour the diced onions and broth over, bring to a boil, stir in the slurry, simmer for 1 minute, then remove from heat. Season well with salt and pepper.
-
6.
Serve by arranging meatballs and carrots on plates, pouring some sauce over them. Salted potatoes go well with this dish.
