Ingredients

  • 400 g frozen puff pastry
  • flour (for working)
  • butter (for the pan)
  • 4 slices toast bread
  • 1 onion
  • 300 g fresh mushrooms
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 kg mixed minced meat
  • 2 dried pickled tomatoes (finely chopped)
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 tsp dried Italian herbs
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • breadcrumbs (as needed)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. 1.

    Preheat the oven to 200°C.

  2. 2.

Let the puff pastry sheets thaw side by side, brush half with water, stack them. On a floured surface roll slightly larger than the pan. Line the pan and set aside cold.

  3. 3.

Soak toast slices in lukewarm water, squeeze out excess, place in a bowl. Peel and finely chop the onion. Clean mushrooms, cut into thin slivers and lightly chop. Sauté both in oil. Drain the liquid. Add minced meat to the bread mixture. Stir in chopped tomatoes, eggs, herbs, salt, pepper and mix well. If too wet, fold in breadcrumbs.

  4. 4.

Spread the meat mixture evenly over the pastry base in the pan. Roll out remaining dough for the top and bottom, cut to size, and cut ornaments from scraps. Cover the pie with the top crust, press the excess edge of the lower base upward, and cut a circle from the center.

  5. 5.

Decorate the pastry surface with ornaments. Whisk egg yolk with water and brush over the top. Bake in preheated oven for about 60 minutes. If needed, cover with foil.
