Make Fried Calamari
How you can make fried calamari yourself, we show you at Spoonsparrow!
Ingredients
- 800 g ready‑to‑cook squid tubes (fresh or thawed)
- 1 l neutral frying oil
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- Salt
- Pepper (freshly ground)
- 100 g spelt whole‑grain flour
Instructions
-
1.
Pat the washed squid bodies dry with paper towels. Cut across into rings about 1 cm thick.
-
2.
Heat the frying oil in a pot until it can float the rings without sinking.
-
3.
Just before cooking, drizzle the rings with lemon juice and season with salt and pepper; mix well.
-
4.
To test oil temperature, insert a wooden stick; if small bubbles rise, it's hot enough (≈170 °C). Place flour in a bowl or shallow dish and coat each ring portionally. Tap off excess flour and set the calamari on a slotted spoon. Carefully slide into the hot oil and fry about 1 minute until golden brown, turning occasionally with the slotted spoon.
-
5.
When the calamari are crisp, lift them from the pot and drain on paper towels until all rings are fried.
-
6.
Serve garnished with your choice of dips and lemon wedges.
