Ingredients

  • 150 g butter
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 250 g flour
  • sugar (for dusting the work surface)

    Mix the butter, sugar, and salt together. Sift the flour, add it to the mixture, and knead everything into a shortbread dough as quickly as possible. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour. Then roll out on a lightly sugared work surface to a thickness of 1 cm, cut out heart shapes, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

    Bake in a preheated oven at 190 °C for about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove and cool on a wire rack. Whisk powdered sugar with red food coloring and a little water until thick; brush pink icing hearts onto the shortbread hearts.
