Ground Beef Cabbage Casserole
This ground beef cabbage casserole is wonderfully flavorful and a feast for the eyes!
Ingredients
- 1 head of savoy cabbage
- juice of 1 lemon
- 750 g mixed ground beef
- 2 onions
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tbsp butter
- Salt
- Pepper (freshly ground)
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 2 Eggs
- 1 stale roll
- 150 g Sour cream
- 200 g heavy cream
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper
- 80 g grated Gruyère cheese
Instructions

Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage, separate the remaining leaves from the stem and blanch in boiling salted water with lemon juice for about 4 minutes. Remove, shock in ice water, drain, then cut out the thick ribs from the leaves.

Soak the roll in lukewarm water.

Peel and dice the onions; sauté in hot butter with the bay leaf until translucent. Remove the bay leaf and let the onions cool slightly.

Squeeze excess liquid from the roll and mix with the onions, ground beef, egg, thyme, salt, and pepper to form a meat mixture.

Grease an oven dish or round springform pan; layer cabbage and meat mixture, topping with more cabbage.

Mix sour cream, heavy cream, cheese, cayenne pepper, and a pinch of salt; pour over the assembled casserole.

Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 40 minutes.
