Ingredients

  • 250 g softened butter
  • 150 g sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 200 g dark chocolate
  • 250 g ground hazelnuts
  • 250 g flour
  • 0.5 tsp Baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 200 g powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 5 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. 1.

Beat butter, sugar and eggs until creamy. Grate chocolate and fold in with hazelnuts, flour, baking powder, cinnamon and cocoa. Spread dough about 2 cm thick onto a greased baking sheet and bake in preheated oven at 200°C (middle rack) for about 20-25 minutes.

  2. 2.

Whisk powdered sugar and lemon juice into a thick glaze and spread over the hot cake. Let it set and cut into squares.

  3. 3.

For decoration, combine sugar with 2 tbsp water in a small pot, bring to a boil while stirring constantly until water evaporates; as the caramel turns light brown, reduce heat and immediately remove from stove. While still hot, use a fork to drizzle caramel strands over the squares.
