Chocolate Cake with Chili

Ingredients
- butter (for the baking pan)
- 200 g dark chocolate (70% cocoa content)
- 200 g butter
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 4 eggs
- 200 g sugar
- 100 g flour
- 2 Organic Limes
- 5 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1 red chili pepper

Preheat the oven to 200°C with upper and lower heat. Butter a 24 cm diameter baking pan.

Melt the chopped chocolate over a hot, non-boiling water bath, remove from heat and stir in cold butter pieces together with the chili powder. Separate the eggs. Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form; beat the yolks with sugar until light and creamy. Gently fold into the cooled chocolate-butter mixture. Fold in the meringue. Sift the flour over and gently fold it in.

Transfer the batter to the baking pan and bake on the middle rack for 35-40 minutes (do a toothpick test). Let cool in the pan, remove and place on a cake plate.

Wash the limes thoroughly, zest thinly, squeeze the juice and combine with 50 ml water and powdered sugar in a pot; bring to a boil. Reduce to a syrupy consistency. Clean the chili pepper, deseed and remove the inner membranes, slice into strips and add. Bring everything briefly to a boil again, set aside and let cool.

For serving cut the cake into pieces, arrange on plates and drizzle with lime-chili syrup.
