Cabbage with Apple Juice

The recipe for cabbage by Spoonsparrow always tastes great again!

Ingredients

  • 1 head red cabbage (ca. 1.2 kg)
  • 1 onion
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 250 ml apple juice
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 3 Juniper berries
  • 2 cloves of pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt
  • ground black pepper
  • 3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp red currant jam

Instructions

    Remove the outer leaves from the cabbage, quarter it, cut out the core and slice into thin strips or julienne. Peel and finely chop the onion. Sauté the onion in butter in a large pot until translucent. Add the cabbage, sauté briefly, then pour in apple juice. Add sugar and spices as desired, either by placing them in a tea bag or adding directly. Season with salt and pepper, cover the pot, and simmer over medium heat for 25-30 minutes.
