Breaded Green Tomatoes

Try tomatoes in a new way – how about breaded green tomatoes from Spoonsparrow?

Ingredients

  • 300 g green tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 Eggs
  • Heinz Hot Ketchup
  • 70 g breadcrumbs
  • 50 g cornmeal
  • 1 pinch sugar
  • Salt
  • Pepper (freshly ground)
  • 2 tbsp butter (for frying)

Instructions

    Wash the tomatoes, remove stems and slice them crosswise into finger‑thick rounds. Dust both sides with flour.

    Whisk eggs and 1 tbsp Heinz Ketchup in a shallow dish. In another dish combine breadcrumbs, cornmeal and sugar.

    Season tomato slices with salt and pepper. Dip each slice first in the egg mixture, then coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb blend.

    Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the coated slices on both sides until golden brown, about 3–4 minutes per side.

    Drain the fried tomatoes briefly on paper towels, then serve with Heinz Hot Ketchup for dipping.
