Ingredients

  • 250 g Potatoes
  • Salt
  • 500 g hornchennudel (or Aelpler Magroone)
  • 2 large onions
  • 300 g cheese (e.g., Sbrinz or Obwaldner Alpine cheese)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 200 g whipping cream
  • 100 ml milk
  • pepper from grinder

Instructions

    Peel and dice the potatoes. Parboil in salted water for 15 minutes, then drain. Or cook the Magroone until al dente and let them drain. Peel, halve, and slice the onions into strips. Grate the cheese. Heat butter, brown the onions to a golden‑yellow color, then set aside.

    Whisk cream with milk, bring to a boil, then stir in 100 g of cheese. Mix the Magroone and potatoes with half of the remaining cheese, season with salt and pepper, and place in a baking dish. Pour the cheese‑cream over it, sprinkle with the rest of the cheese. Cover and bake in a preheated oven (middle rack) at 200 °C until the cheese melts. Distribute the onions on top.
