Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg red onions
  • 0.25 l olive oil
  • 200 ml robust red wine
  • 150 g powdered sugar
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 0.13 l red wine vinegar
  • pepper (ground)

Instructions

    Peel the onions and slice them into rings. Heat the olive oil in a pot and gently sauté the onion rings until translucent. Stir in the red wine and powdered sugar, pour over the onions, add the bay leaves, bring to a boil, then pour in the red wine vinegar and 200 ml water.

    Bring to a boil once more and season with pepper. Distribute into two jars and seal tightly. The next day drain the soaking liquid and bring it to a boil again. Let the liquid cool and pour over the onions. Seal the jars well and store in a cool, dark place.
