Ingredients

  • 2 onions
  • 1 red chili pepper
  • 2 tbsp plant oil
  • 250 g crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp Honey
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 500 g ground beef (beef or mixed)
  • 4 buns (rye optional)
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • 4 lettuce leaves (e.g., Lollo bionda)
  • 120 g soft cheese (e.g., Taleggio)

Instructions

  1. 1.

Peel the onions and dice them very finely. Wash, halve, and trim the chili pepper; sauté with the onion in a hot pot using 1 tbsp oil until lightly golden brown. Deglaze with a splash of water and the crushed tomatoes, then simmer for about 15 minutes until thickened, stirring occasionally. Season with honey, vinegar, salt, and pepper, remove from heat, and let cool.

  2. 2.

Season the ground beef with salt and pepper and shape into four patties. Brush each patty with oil and grill on a hot grill for 3-4 minutes per side. Slice the buns horizontally and lightly toast the cut sides as well.

  3. 3.

Wash the tomatoes, trim off the stem ends, and slice them. Wash, dry, and shake off excess water from the lettuce leaves. Slice the cheese into rounds.

  4. 4.

Layer tomato slices and lettuce on the bottom halves of the buns, place the patties with the onion sauce and cheese on top, cover with the bun tops, and serve.
