Ingredients

  • 180 g butter
  • 250 g flour
  • 80 g sugar
  • 2 tbsp vanilla sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon zest
  • 40 g marzipan paste
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 egg
  • milk (for brushing)
  • powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

    Mix the softened butter, flour, sugar, vanilla sugar, lemon zest, marzipan, salt and egg in a bowl and knead into a smooth dough. Cover and chill for about 30 minutes.

    Roll the dough into ropes about 3 cm thick. Brush with milk, roll in powdered sugar, cover again and chill for another 30 minutes.

    Preheat the oven to 180 °C fan. Line one or two baking trays with parchment paper. Cut the ropes into slices about 5 mm thick and bake for 8–10 minutes until golden brown. Remove and cool on a wire rack.
