Gratinated Cabbage with Cheese and Ham

A simple gratinated cabbage dish that tastes great for dinner, lunch, or take‑out. The creamy cheese sauce and crunchy sunflower seeds add a delightful texture.

Ingredients

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • Salt
  • 150 g Gouda cheese
  • 150 g cooked ham
  • 4 Spring Onions
  • 2 tbsp sunflower seeds
  • 100 ml heavy cream
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • butter (for the dish)

Instructions

    Preheat the oven to 180°C fan‑forced.

    Clean the cabbage, remove outer leaves, cut into quarters and trim the core. Cut into wedges and blanch in plenty of boiling salted water for about 10 minutes. Drain, rinse with cold water, and let dry. Grate the cheese and slice the ham into thin strips. Wash and trim the spring onions, then slice into fine rings.

    Butter a baking dish and place the cabbage wedges inside. Season with salt and pepper, then sprinkle grated cheese and ham strips over them. Add the sliced spring onions and sunflower seeds on top, drizzle with heavy cream.

    Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
