Ingredients
- 300 g flour
- 15 g fresh yeast
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 150 ml lukewarm milk
- 50 g butter
- 2 egg yolks
- flour (for dusting)
- 150 g plum jam
- 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
- 50 g ground poppy seeds
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
Instructions
-
1.
Sift the flour into a bowl, press a well in the center, crumble the yeast into it, sprinkle the sugar over it and pour the milk on top. Stir the yeast with the milk and let the pre‑mix rise covered in a warm place for about 15 minutes. Melt the butter and add it together with the egg yolks, knead, and let rise again for about 15 minutes. Then divide the dough into eight equal pieces, knead vigorously, shape into balls, place on a board and let rest another 15 minutes.
-
2.
Meanwhile mix the plum jam with the cinnamon.
-
3.
Press a hole in each dough ball and fill it with about one tablespoon of jam. Carefully seal the edges so the ball is closed again. Let rise for another 15 minutes.
-
4.
Place a steamer basket in a wide, large pot and cover the bottom with enough water. Bring the water to a boil. Put the Germknödel into the steamer basket and steam them for 15–20 minutes. Mix the poppy seeds with powdered sugar.

5.
Remove the Germknödel from the steam, sprinkle with the poppy‑seed mixture and serve.
