Cabbage Rolls Like Grandma

Cabbage rolls like Grandma from Spoonsparrow evoke childhood memories and taste wonderfully again!

Ingredients

  • 16 white cabbage leaves
  • 2 bunches vegetable stock mix
  • 2 bunches spring onions
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 slice white bread
  • 2 tbsp mustard
  • 2 tsp marjoram
  • 350 g mixed ground meat
  • 3 tbsp clarified butter
  • 150 ml vegetable broth (from the jar)
  • 600 g starchy potatoes
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 150 ml milk
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions

    Wash cabbage leaves, cut thick leaf tips flat, blanch in boiling salted water for 5 minutes, remove, cool in ice water and pat dry. Clean and dice the vegetable stock mix. Trim and wash spring onions, slice into rings, crumble white bread.

    Mix ground meat with one-third of spring onions, crumbled bread, salt, pepper, marjoram and mustard. Place two cabbage leaves on top of each other and spread meat mixture over them. Fold in the edges, roll up, tie with kitchen twine. Heat clarified butter in a large roasting pan, add rolls, remaining spring onions and vegetable stock mix, pour in broth, cover and bake at 200°C for 30 minutes.

    After 20 minutes remove the lid, continue cooking uncovered until done. Peel potatoes, wash, boil in salted water for 25 minutes, drain, steam dry and press while hot. Stir in butter and warm milk, season with salt and pepper. Serve cabbage rolls like Grandma with the mash.
