You can make Asian dumplings (Wan Tan) at home with a bit of skill. Here you will learn how to prepare the dough and shrimp filling.

Ingredients

  • 200 g wheat starch
  • 125 g shrimp
  • 0.5 onion
  • 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp Sesame oil
  • Pepper
  • Salt
  • soy sauce

Instructions

  1. 1.

Make a smooth, silky dough by mixing wheat starch with a little boiling water (add in small amounts while kneading). Roll it thin and cut out circles about 8–10 cm in diameter.

  2. 2.

Finely chop the shrimp. Peel and finely mince the onion as well. Mix both with ginger, sesame oil, pepper, and salt.

  3. 3.

Place the filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over and seal by alternating the seam side into folds to create a zig‑zag stitch. Steam in a bamboo steamer for 10 minutes. Serve with soy sauce.
